The first stage of the process is making a pattern of the vehicle. Rather like tailoring a bespoke suit of clothes, we produce a detailed paper pattern of the contours of the vehicle...

Sarah our designer is seen taking a
pattern in a Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

Some boots are complicated and require quite a lot of time making a good pattern which will function well in use.
A lot of time is also spent considering the method of attachment of the liner. We use a range of attachments, the most popular being Velcro style hook and loop fixings.

Quite often the carpets are themselves loop pile and the hook Velcro will fasten directly to the carpet. Elastic loops, ties and plastic clips are all considered to make sure we provide a liner that will give you good service.

Next step is to transfer the design into our state of the art design station...

The paper pattern or template is digitised, transferring the details onto the Computer workstation where final adjustments are made. The various options are created and saved into our database of designs which now number over 500. It's only by the use of this technology that we can guarantee pattern accuracy is maintained...

Manufacturing instructions are produced and the data is transferred to the Computer controlled cutting station...

The machine cuts the parts out to an accuracy of 0.1mm, and does this with speed and consistency.( A huge improvement on the old manual method using cardboard templates.)The pieces are all identified and taken to the next stage of the process.

The attachment positions are marked and if Velcro is used, a welding process bonds the Velcro to the liner...

Finally, the boot liner is ready to be sewn together using our skilled machinists...

Once produced the liner must then be tested in the vehicle and any minor alterations or changes can be made. These modifications then have to be incorporated in the design and process information before re-checking the liner and adding the pattern to our model list - not quite as straightforward as you may have thought!
The process for our Mucky Joe range of seat covers is essentially the same, except due to the larger number of pattern pieces (up to 100 individual pieces make a set of tailored covers) the process takes quite a lot longer.
